Samuel Osaretin Buraimoh, a brilliant Nigerian graduate, has been awarded the prestigious Mastercard Foundation Scholarship to pursue his master’s degree in Canada after earning a first-class bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology from the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
Samuel shared his achievements on LinkedIn, announcing that he will be studying Food Science at the University of British Columbia, Canada, thanks to the fully funded scholarship.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholarship supports talented but economically disadvantaged students from Sub-Saharan Africa in accessing higher education.
Reflecting on his journey, Samuel described it as the culmination of years of hard work, determination, and resilience, which began in 2018 with a clear vision of pursuing higher education at a world-renowned institution.
However, his path was not without challenges, including numerous rejections from scholarship programs. Despite the discouragement and heartbreak, he used each setback as an opportunity to learn and grow.
After many applications, refining his approach, and maintaining his faith, Samuel was finally awarded the Mastercard Scholarship in 2024. He expressed deep gratitude to God, his family, friends, mentors, and colleagues, whose support and belief in him sustained him through difficult times.
With the scholarship, Samuel plans to assist others in their scholarship pursuits, work with students to help them secure opportunities, collaborate on food sustainability projects, and share his knowledge with communities and organizations to make a positive impact.
For those facing rejection or self-doubt, Samuel advises them to keep faith in themselves and continue pushing forward, even when the odds seem against them.
