Joy Nmachukwu Ahiakwo, a 26-year-old graduate of Caleb University, Ikorodu, Lagos, has been recognized as the overall best-graduating student in Industrial Chemistry for the Class of 2024, achieving a remarkable 4.98 CGPA out of 5.0.
Ahiakwo shared that while she was confident in securing a First-Class degree, she had not anticipated being named the best-graduating student. Her dedication to academic excellence was driven by a structured study routine, strict discipline, and an unwavering focus on her coursework. She emphasized the importance of consistency, studying daily from 7 PM to 10 PM, and later extending her study hours in her final year. Unlike many students, she preferred studying alone but actively participated in departmental tutorials, often leading discussions and mentoring her peers.
Reflecting on her university experience, Ahiakwo admitted that adjusting to Caleb University was initially challenging, especially as a Direct Entry student. However, she eventually built strong relationships with her coursemates. She also credited her parents, particularly her father, for their unwavering support, ensuring her comfort and smooth transition from studying abroad to schooling in Nigeria.
Ahiakwo is passionate about Chemistry and envisions a dynamic career in various industries, including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, oil, and textiles. She aspires to explore multiple fields rather than being confined to a single role.
