Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has dismissed UNN’s announcement naming her a visiting professor as false, stating she received no offer or communication from the university and urging the public to disregard the claim.

Chimamanda Adichie has denied reports claiming she’s been appointed a visiting professor at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). Her communications team called the claims “entirely false”, stating she hadn’t received any appointment or communication from the university.
The controversy arose after UNN announced Adichie’s appointment, alongside Prof. Kevin Urama and Prof. James Robinson, as visiting professors, citing efforts to boost the university’s global academic standing. However, Adichie’s team expressed disappointment over the unverified claim, urging the public and media to disregard the reports.
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, had issued official letters dated December 18, 2025, outlining Adichie’s responsibilities, including teaching, research collaboration, and mentorship. Despite this, Adichie’s team maintains no such offer was made, highlighting the importance of clear communication in academic appointments.
The outcome of this appointment remains uncertain, with Adichie’s response still awaited. This situation underscores the need for verification in academic announcements, especially involving prominent figures like Adichie.
