Coronavirus: Kwara govt warns management of UITH over conduct of medical personnel

Kwara govt warned the UITH hospital not to jeopardise the health of the citizens in the state.

The Kwara State Government has issued a warning to the management of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).

Dr Abubakar Ayinla, the Permanent Secretary, Kwara Ministry of Health while addressing the Chief Medical Director of the UITH, Prof. Yusuf Dasilva, warned the hospital not to jeopardise the health of the citizens in the state.

During the daily routine meeting of the medical team of the Kwara COVID-19 Technical Committee in the state at the State Ministry of Health on Tuesday, Ayinla charged the management of the UITH to be on guard to prevent any infectious disease.

The warning came against the background of the recent involvement of a Prof. Alakija Salami, in concealing the travel history of a deceased suspected COVID-19 case in the state.

According to him, the UITH should be able to handle infectious diseases as anticipated without jeopardising the overall health of the health workers and other patients who visit the hospital.

He further assured the UITH team that the COVID-19 medical team will make all the necessary logistics available to them to ensure suspected cases are promptly screened, tested and samples moved to designated NCDC test centres.

Ayinla commended the state government under the leadership of Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his commitment to the health care of the citizenry.

He explained, “the state has a formidable medical response team that reports to the Chairman of the COVID-19 Technical Committee led by the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi.”

Speaking on the development, the Team Lead for the NCDC in the state implored the two parties to improve upon their strategies towards ensuring that the ravaging threat of COVID-19 is brought to a halt in the state and country at large.

This is not a time to blame any institution for the outbreak and no cause for ‘fear’ as it is not a death sentence.

“Solution to the problem should be the key objective with full responsibility by the State,” NAN quoted him as saying.
