Despite His Duties, Police Officer Tops Graduating Class at University

Cursory: Lance Corporal Richmond Nyarko Obeng, a Ghana Police Service member, graduated as valedictorian at the University of Ghana’s January 2024 graduation. Despite his duties, he earned a First Class degree in Administration, majoring in Accounting, with a FGPA of 3.82.

Lance Corporal Richmond Nyarko Obeng, a member of the Ghana Police Service, achieved the highest academic honor as the valedictorian at the University of Ghana’s January 2024 graduation. Despite his duties as a police officer, Lance Corporal Obeng earned a First Class degree with an outstanding Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 3.82 in Administration, majoring in Accounting.

The Ghana Police Service expressed pride in Lance Corporal Obeng’s exceptional academic achievement, highlighting his consistent excellence since his training days.

Richmond’s educational journey began at Presby Basic School in Akyem Ankaase, followed by Christ Mediation International School in Atimatim-Edwenease.

He furthered his studies at Adanwomase Senior High School, where he distinguished himself as a Dining Hall Prefect and Secretary to the National Union of Presbyterian Students – Ghana (NUPS-G).

Upon completing high school, he joined the Ghana Police Service in 2016, graduating as the second overall best recruit of his batch at the National Police Training School, Tesano, in July 2017.

Subsequently, he excelled at the Detective Training Academy, where he emerged as the top student and detective of course three.

Currently assigned to the Financial Forensics Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department, Richmond commenced his studies at the University of Ghana in 2019, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Administration through the School of Continuing and Distance Education.

He aspires to become a Chartered Accountant in the future.
