From 3.1 GPA to First-Class Nigerian Law Graduate Amarachi Shares her Story

Amarachi Okoroafor, a resilient Nigerian law graduate, overcame academic setbacks and personal struggles to earn a First-Class degree from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, emerging as the Best Student in Evidence Law.

Amarachi Okoroafor, a Nigerian graduate, has earned a First-Class Honours degree in Law from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Nigeria, and was recognized as the Best Student in Evidence Law for the 2021/2022 academic session.

Amarachi’s academic journey began with promise, achieving a 4.97 GPA in her first semester. However, unforeseen circumstances led her to miss several examinations, resulting in a significant drop in her GPA to 3.1. This setback challenged her confidence and made her initial goal of graduating with first-class honours seem unattainable.

Determined to overcome these challenges, Amarachi developed consistent study habits and recommitted herself to her academic pursuits. Despite facing further obstacles, including a difficult examination in Equity and Trust where she struggled to answer a question, she persevered. Her dedication culminated in achieving her first-class degree, a moment that brought her immense relief and joy.

Reflecting on her experience, Amarachi emphasized the importance of maintaining balance in the pursuit of success. She acknowledged that while striving for academic excellence, aspects of her personal life, including friendships, finances, spiritual well-being, and mental health, were impacted. She advises others that success should not come at the expense of one’s peace, relationships, or faith.

Amarachi expressed deep gratitude to the friends who supported her throughout her journey and to God, whose mercy she believes carried her through. Her story serves as an inspiration, highlighting resilience, determination, and the importance of holistic well-being in achieving one’s goals.
