From 300k to N3.3m: List of Tuition Fees of Top Private Universities in Nigeria

Cursory: List of Tuition Fees of Top Private Universities in Nigeria.

The tuition prices levied by some private colleges in Nigeria have been brought to light in research by Agora Policy, a Nigerian think tank dedicated to providing workable answers to important national concerns. The Bolaji Abdullahi study included suggestions for how to reposition Nigeria’s public universities for growth and competitiveness at the national level.

Among other things, Abdullahi, who was a former minister for youth development and sports and the Kwara state commissioner for education, suggested that the federal government get out of the business of running universities.

“Less government is best for universities. Government should grant full autonomy to its public universities, and allow each university to develop its own identity and grow at its own pace,” he wrote.

The former minister also made a comparison between some public university tuition costs and private university tuition fees to illustrate the necessity for public universities to start charging reasonable tuition fees that can ensure a high quality education.

“Universities should be allowed to charge tuition fees within the parameters set by government, but the Education Bank needs to be established to offer federal government-backed loans to students who may require them,” he added.

The former minister also highlighted the tuition fees some public universities in the country charge.
