Obed Asamoah Boateng, a former mobile money vendor, overcame financial struggles by working multiple jobs and persevering through hardship to graduate with first-class honours from the University of Ghana.

Obed Asamoah Boateng, a determined young man from Ghana, has captured the hearts of many with his inspiring story of resilience, hard work, and academic success. Despite facing financial struggles, Obed persevered and graduated from the University of Ghana with first-class honours.
Obed’s journey began in Senior High School at Agogo State College, where, despite attending a lesser-known Grade C school, he remained focused on his dreams. Taking on leadership roles such as Boys’ Studies Prefect and General Secretary for PENSA, he balanced academics with service, eventually earning impressive WASSCE results of 5As, 2Bs, and a C.
After high school, with limited financial support and little hope of affording university, Obed worked as a mobile money (MoMo) vendor to save for his future. When that income fell short, a friend’s advice led him to Accra, where he secured a more stable job at a biscuit factory. Although the work was demanding, Obed pushed through the long hours and night shifts, determined to change his story.
Upon gaining admission to the University of Ghana, the challenges didn’t stop. To support himself, Obed took on multiple jobs, including selling tissue paper, working at his father’s mechanic shop during holidays, and serving as a waiter in East Legon. Despite these hardships, he never lost sight of his goal.
Through relentless dedication and perseverance, Obed graduated with first-class honours, turning his struggles into a powerful testimony. His story, shared via a viral TikTok video, has since become a source of motivation for many facing similar obstacles.
