Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, welcomed 1,007 new students into its academic community during its 16th matriculation ceremony.


The newly matriculated students come from the university’s College of Medicine, School of Nursing, and faculties of Law, Natural Sciences and Environmental Studies, Education, Management and Social Sciences, and Arts
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke highlighted the institution’s commitment to producing well-rounded graduates. “A balanced Godfrey Okoye graduate is not only academically excellent but also understands the importance of collaboration,” he emphasized.
He proudly noted the university’s recognition by Times Higher Education for having the best staff-student ratio in Nigeria, underscoring the quality of education delivered at GO Uni.
Prof. Anieke celebrated the university’s numerous achievements, stating that Godfrey Okoye has never entered a national or international competition without winning a prize. He also mentioned the global presence of the university’s alumni and academic staff, who continue to elevate the institution’s international profile through collaborative research and teaching.
Hard work, dialogue, and spirituality remain the core values of the institution. “Hard work inspires us to give our best, and our emphasis on collaboration fosters unity,” Prof. Anieke said.
In a generous gesture, an alumnus of the university has pledged N1 million in awards for the best students in Law and Medicine, with employment offers for the top graduates in both fields.
Rev. Fr. Benjamin Achi, Director of Communication and Station Manager of GOUNI Radio, delivered a heartfelt homily, urging everyone to show genuine love to one another.
The event featured the announcement of prizes for the winners of the Pen Gold competition by the Director of Competitions, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu, and the honouring of newly appointed Monsignors and Papal Knight, recognizing their contributions to the church and community. Musical performances led by the Director of Music, Mr. Eric Mbaeze, the university choir, and live band added to the celebratory atmosphere.
Students declared their loyalty to the university, vowing to uphold its values and regulations while promoting peace and harmony.
