Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has appointed Samuel Badekale and Haroun Adebakin, the best graduating students of the University of Lagos at its 55th convocation, as the state’s Education Ambassadors.
In recognition of their outstanding academic achievements, the governor also presented each of them with a ₦10 million cheque.
Speaking at the event held at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Friday, Abiodun praised the duo for attaining a perfect Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0, describing their success as a source of pride for the state and an inspiration to other students.
“You have not only made Ogun State proud but have also set yourselves on the path to greatness. We are appointing you as Education Ambassadors so that you can inspire students across the state. Through engagement programs, you will share your experiences and motivate others to strive for excellence.”
The governor highlighted the importance of education as a tool for success and poverty eradication, commending the students’ parents for their sacrifices in ensuring quality education for their children. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing the education sector, citing initiatives such as the Revitalisation Agenda and the learner identification system.
In their remarks, Badekale and Adebakin expressed gratitude to the governor for the recognition, stating that their success proves that young people can achieve greatness through hard work and dedication without resorting to fraudulent activities.
“Today’s recognition shows that success comes through diligence and discipline. We encourage young people to stay focused on their education and avoid actions that could bring dishonor to their families.”
