IAUE Approves Department Name Change to Reflect Chinese & German Language
The Senate of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) have Approved Department Name Change to Reflect Chinese and German Language offerings.
Senate on its first statutory sitting for the year 2025 on Wednesday January 29th, approved that the name of the Department of French and International studies be changed to Foreign Languages and International studies to reflect the expansion of the language offerings.
The Head of the Department Dr (Mrs) Juliet Elikwu had sought the approval for the change of name given that the Department is already offering Chinese language and also incorporated German language studies alongside.
Professor Priye Iyalla-Amadi of the Department on the floor of the house expressed gratitude to the Chairman of Senate Professor Okechuku Onuchuku and Members for the kind approval and urged all to note the change and refer to the Department accordingly.
Professor Okechuku Onuchuku expressed appreciation to all staff for cooperation received during the year ended and called for continuous prayers for the university.

He enjoined all to form the habit of making declarations that are positive for the growth, progress and development of the institution.
On classroom space, the Chairman of Senate informed that four hundred seats are expected soon to be used in the classrooms. He urged all teaching staff to adhere to the time table prepared by the Time Table Committee and not to alter it to avoid unnecessary drama.
The Acting Vice Chancellor described as unfortunate and embarrassing the situation where two Lecturers from the Department of Economics displayed improper behaviour in front of their students over classroom space and wondered the kind of example that they were setting. Senate upheld the suspension of the two Lecturers without pay for portraying the image of the University in bad light. This action Senate hopes will serve as a deterrent to others. The Head of the Department of Economics was also directed to reassigned the two courses to other Lecturers.
The Chairman cautioned against harassment of students and extortion of all kinds and added that those found culpable will be shown the way out of the University.
Senate highlighted the need for students to dress properly and advised Lecturers not to allow those indecently dressed into their classrooms. The Acting Vice Chancellor noted that it will require the collective effort of all to achieve the fight against indecent dressing.
He informed the house of the passing of the Director of Physical Planning Architect Daerego Lawson. A minute silence was observed in his honour by Senate.
Head of Department of Home Economics, Hotel Management, Tourism and Hospitality Professor Regina Azuwena thanked Senate Members for love shown her during the passing of her husband and subsequent burial.
Senate approved results from the Faculties of Administration and Management Sciences, Education, Humanities, Natural and Applied Sciences, Social Sciences and Vocational and Technical Education as presented by the Deans. Senate equally approved results presented by the Director Centre for Continuing Education.
