The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele, who disclosed this in a statement he personally signed, alleged that the student was selling the substance on the campus.

Ndimele said the student, who also smokes weed in the hostel, was nabbed following a tip-off by fellow students, who alerted the institution’s security men.

The VC’s statement titled: ‘Another case of suspension from studies – Mr Chimara Prince’, said the suspect is from the Department of Guidance and Counselling.

He said Prince had been handed over to the police, while his case had been referred to the institution’s Senate Disciplinary Committee to determine his fate.

The statement read in part, “The management of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education has suspended the following student from studies: Mr Chimara Prince – UE/2018/G&C/BED4/0314 from the Guidance and Counselling Department.

“It was alleged that Mr Chimara Prince is a chronic smoker of weed in the hostel without regard to the feelings of his roommates. He was arrested with large sacks of some substances suspected to be Indian hemp, which he sold freely to his fellow students in the hostel.

“Meanwhile, he has been handed over to the police for further interrogation. His case has also been referred to the Senate Disciplinary Committee to decide his fate with regard to his studentship here.

“Let me salute the courage of our students, who brought this dangerous act of Mr Chimara Prince to the knowledge of the school management. That is how it ought to be.
