Noel Ifeanyi Alimona, a young Nigerian man, has been nominated for a global prize of $100,000 for his exceptional work in educating young children through his Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).
Currently pursuing a master’s degree at Vanderbilt University in the United States, Noel is also the founder of Boys Champions, an NGO dedicated to teaching boys about respecting and avoiding violence against women.
He successfully completed his bachelor’s degree in Arts at Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, Italy. Noel’s early life in Nigeria was marked by hardships and trauma.
As the first-generation student in his family, he faced numerous challenges to pursue his education. At just nine years old, he experienced the tragic loss of his pregnant mother due to complications from a rape incident.
Additionally, he had to contend with the adverse impacts of the Boko Haram insurgencies in northern Nigeria, including riots, displacement, and the destruction of schools in the region.
According to Noel, he had to stay away from school for a period of two years. Tragically, while he was completing his high school education, his father lost his life during one of the attacks, leaving Noel and his siblings to fend for themselves.
These traumatic events had a profound and lasting impact on his life. Despite facing numerous challenges, Noel remained determined not to let them define his life.
During his university years, he established ‘Boys Champions,’ a youth-led nonprofit organization aimed at guiding boys and young men on their journey to manhood by promoting positive masculinity and teaching them respectful ways to interact with women.
Noel mentioned that through Boys Champions, they also deliver books and educational materials to rural communities using a mobile library, with the goal of nurturing the next generation of future leaders.
Additionally, he pointed out that the current state of Nigeria’s educational system, which lacks inclusion for people with disabilities, is not a favorable position for the country.
