KASU ASUU BRANCH Notice on Suspension Of Strike Action.

The congress of Academic Staff Union of Universities, Kaduna State University chapter met on Saturday, 22nd February, 2025, considered and deliberated on the offers from Kaduna state government. After extensive deliberations, congress agreed to suspend the strike action subject to the signing of agreement between government and the union.

In the course of deliberations, Government demonstrated goodwill in resolving the impasse by immediately releasing funds to pay the 60% September, 2017 withheld salaries and SIWES supervision allowance for 5 sessions. Government has also agreed to a timeline in the payment of the five (5) months, May to September, 2022 withheld salaries, promotion arears, Earned academic allowance (EAA), Pension remittance (2009 to 2019), Death benefits and Group Life Assurance. Government also showed commitment in the implementation of wage award and granting of autonomy to the University.

We want to use this opportunity to specially thank His Excellency, the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani for his swift intervention and leadership in resolving the issues that led to the strike action. This is indeed a deviation from the dark days of the past where members were victimized for participating in lawful strike actions.

We appreciate the University management, Commissioner of Education, Commissioner of Sports and the Principal Private Secretary (PPS) to the Governor and other stakeholders for their roles in ensuring a quick resolution of the impasse. We also thank our students and parents for their understanding and support.

Special thanks goes to our members for their unalloyed and unwavering solidarity and determination during the strike action.

Having received approval from NEC, the union calls on all academic staff to resume their duties and continue rendering invaluable services to the University community.
