Kidnapped 300-Level University of Ibadan Law Student Regains Freedom

A 300-level University of Ibadan Law student who was kidnapped while returning from a religious conference has regained her freedom, with the Students’ Union confirming her safe release and thanking everyone involved in securing it.

A 300-level Law student of the University of Ibadan (UI), identified as Fumilayo, has regained her freedom after being abducted alongside several other travellers while returning from a religious conference.

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (SU) confirmed her release in an official statement signed by its President, Temidayo Adeboye, and General Secretary, Joshua Shontan.

According to the union, the student’s release was confirmed in the early hours of Monday after receiving verified information from relevant authorities and representatives of the organisation connected to the incident.

The Students’ Union announced that Fumilayo and the other released victims are currently undergoing the necessary post-release procedures before returning to their various destinations. The union also assured members of the university community that arrangements are being made to ensure her safe return to campus.

The union expressed gratitude to security agencies, the University of Ibadan management, the leadership of the Scripture Union, and everyone who contributed to securing the victims’ release. It noted that their combined efforts played an important role in achieving the positive outcome.

The Students’ Union also appreciated students, staff, alumni, and members of the public who offered prayers, encouragement, and support throughout the period of uncertainty, describing their solidarity as a source of strength.

While celebrating the student’s safe release, the union prayed for the complete recovery, healing, and well-being of everyone affected by the incident and wished them a smooth return to normal life.

Fumilayo was abducted alongside several other travellers while returning from a religious programme, an incident that generated widespread concern within the University of Ibadan community and prompted calls for urgent intervention before her eventual release.
