The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, has approved the appointment of Professor Isiaka Zubair Aliagan as Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).


The notice of appointment is contained in a letter signed by the Registrar, Dr. Kikelomo W. Sallee, and dated November 13, 2024. The letter of appointment adds that the appointment is based on Professor Aliagan’s exemplary leadership qualities and wealth of experience, both of which he is expected to bring to bear in the discharge of his duties.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, has approved the appointment of Professor Isiaka Zubair Aliagan as Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Professor Isiaka Zubair Aliagan is well equipped for the role of Dean of the Faculty of ICT. He served Kwara State University in an adjunct capacity from 2009-2010 when he taught Basic Journalism; History of Nigerian Mass Media at no cost to the institution.
Before formally joining the service of Kwara State University in 2012 from the University of Ilorin, where he was at one time a Deputy Director Information, he was appointed Special Assistant (Press) to The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and deployed to the Office of the First Lady from August 2010-July 2011. Professor Aliagan was on leave of absence and worked with The Presidency from 2012-2015 as Principal Secretary/Personal Aide (Research & Documentation) to the then First Lady, Dame Patience Faka Jonathan.
Since joining the service of KWASU, he has been acting head of the department of Mass Communication where he worked to ensure the full accreditation for the Mass Communication program. He was also one-time director of the University Relations, and pioneer director of Alumni Relations.
Professor Aliagan has been the Acting Dean of the Faculty of ICT since 2021, providing academic and administrative leadership for faculty members and serving on various university committees such as the Central Budget Review and Monitoring Committee, Academic Planning and Curriculum Review Committee, and Committee of Deans of the institution.
A consummate media professional, Professor Aliagan was the Editor of The Herald Newspaper between 1997 and 1999; Editor of the African Aviation Quarterly, Lagos; editor of the Aviation Quarterly, Lagos; and aviation reporter with The Guardian from 1989-1994.
He holds two doctors of philosophy degrees from the University of Ilorin in 2009 and Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2019. He obtained his master’s degree in mass communication from the University of Lagos and his B.Sc. from Bayero University. Kano.
He was appointed to full chair by 2024 and belongs to many professional associations such as Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria, International Press Institute (IPI), Association of Communication Scholars and Practitioners of Nigeria (ACSPN), African Council for Communication Education (ACCE), Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Nigeria Guild of Editors, and Nigeria Union of Journalists.
