LG boss’ death not our fault – LAUTECH

Ladoke Akinkola University Teaching Hospital, denied the rumours sayings they have fault in death of Ejigbo Local government boss.

The management of Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, has absolved itself of the allegations levelled against it in the death of the Chairman of Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Mr Gbenga Ayegbayo.

The PUNCH had on Tuesday reported the death of the late local government chairman who was taken to LAUTECH before being transferred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan where he died.

The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the hospital, Dr Michael Onigbinde, in a statement on Wednesday, confirmed that the LG boss was brought to the hospital on Friday, April 3, 2020.

He said all necessary medical attention was given to the patient until he had to be referred to the UCH, Ibadan when the need for him to see a particular specialist arose.

“Before the plan for a referral was concluded, a call was put through to the patient’s managing consultant (name withheld) at the UCH who gave a marching order for the patient to be transferred to UCH forthwith. The said managing consultant instructed that he should be called upon immediately on arrival.

‘It was at this point that the patient was transferred to UCH for further medical attention. But unfortunately, upon arrival at UCH, the LG boss was not allowed entry into the Accident and Emergency Unit by the doctors on duty even after the managing consultant intervened,” Onigbinde said.

He said the doctors on duty at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital held that the patient would not be allowed entry until a certificate showing that the patient was either negative or positive for COVID-19 was presented.

Onigbinde added that LAUTECH was not a designated centre for COVID-19 testing and that was why the LG boss was not tested before being moved to UCH.
