A man who financed his girlfriend’s nursing education is seeking legal advice after she refused to marry him despite their verbal agreement.

A Nigerian man identified as James Eze is asking for legal guidance after the woman he supported financially throughout her nursing education allegedly backed out of their marriage agreement.
The story, shared on Facebook and reposted by public figure Maria Ude Nwachi, reveals that Eze had a verbal understanding with his girlfriend and her mother: he would fund her nursing school training, and once she graduated, they would get married.
However, according to the post, after completing her program last year, the woman is now rejecting the marriage arrangement, prompting Eze to seek legal options.
Nwachi included Eze’s message, which read:
“I made a verbal agreement with my girlfriend and her mother to sponsor her through nursing school, then we’d marry afterwards. She has finished school and now wants to leave me. What can I legally do in this situation?”
The post quickly gained traction online, drawing widespread reactions from social media users who shared mixed opinions.

Beautiful Oyinye:
“Legal options? My brother, just see it as charity work. God will reward you.”
Chukwudi Ozalla:
“Settle it verbally. Say your piece, let your anger out, and move on. I wish you well.”
Naza Emmanuel:
“Don’t marry her and don’t let another man marry her either. In my village, a lady who tried that faced the consequences before she was released.”
Boni Flamez:
“Where is it written that someone you sponsor is obligated to marry you? But if she insists on not marrying you… then marry her by force—jokingly sha.”
Mubeen:
“Did she force you? That’s why I’m not sponsoring my girlfriend now. I invest only in my future wife, not someone whose intentions I’m unsure of.”
