The National Institute of Construction Technology and Management (NICTM) won the inaugural NANS inter-campus quiz competition in Edo State, where the EFCC urged students to use digital platforms responsibly and stakeholders commended the event as a step toward fostering academic excellence and campus safety.


The National Institute of Construction Technology and Management (NICTM), Uromi, emerged victorious in the inaugural inter-campus quiz competition organized by the Joint Campus Council (JCC) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Edo State chapter.
Hosted at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, the competition drew participation from tertiary institutions across Edo State under the theme “Safe Campus for Students: Combating Physical and Digital Threats.”
The contest reached a dramatic conclusion when NICTM and the University of Benin (UNIBEN) tied in the final round, prompting a tie-breaker that ultimately saw NICTM claim the top prize of ₦300,000. UNIBEN secured second place with ₦200,000, while the host institution, AAU, took third with a ₦100,000 prize.
Also competing were Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State Polytechnic Usen, and the Federal College of Education (Technical), Ekiadolor.

EFCC Delivers Keynote: Use Digital Platforms Responsibly
The event featured a keynote address by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), delivered by Williams Oseghale, Head of Public Affairs for the Benin Zonal Directorate, on behalf of Acting Zonal Director Effa Okim.
Speaking on “Use the Cyberspace Positively,” Oseghale urged students to leverage digital tools for education, entrepreneurship, and social impact—not for fraud or manipulation.
“You are the digital generation. Use that power responsibly,” he said. “The internet is not just a playground—it’s a powerful tool. Choose to build, not destroy. Choose to enlighten, not exploit.”
Government, Stakeholders Commend Student Initiative
Hon. Gani Akokhia, an AAU alumnus and member of the Edo State House of Assembly representing Etsako West Constituency II, applauded the competition while representing the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku.
“This competition is proof that our students are not just making noise—they are making sense,” Akokhia said. “I’m proud to witness this intellectual renaissance on our campuses.”
Comrade Jimah Mubarak, Senior Special Assistant to the Edo State Governor on Student Matters, praised the initiative for promoting student involvement in campus safety.
“Security is not just about gates and guards,” he said. “It’s about awareness, vigilance, and shared responsibility. Students are co-creators of safety on campus.”
He added that Governor Monday Okpebholo remains committed to making educational environments secure and that youth empowerment, education, and safety are pillars of the administration’s SHINE agenda.
A Movement of Minds, Not Just Voices
In his welcome address, Comrade Ojumoola Miracle Timileyin, chairman of NANS JCC Edo Axis, described the competition as a step toward a larger goal.
“This is more than a competition—it’s a movement,” Timileyin said. “A movement of students who are ready to lead with their minds. Today, we proved that intellectual excellence can be the new protest.”
He emphasized that the event was designed to celebrate and reward critical thinking, academic excellence, and constructive engagement among students across the state.
