Nigerian First-Class Graduate bags PhD from US Varsity with 10 Outstanding Awards

This is Ifeanyi Okpala, the brilliant Nigerian man who graduated with first-class honors in a Nigerian University, went for his Ph.D. in US Varsity, and still graduated with an excellent result, earning him the Outstanding Graduate Student of the year.

Ifeanyi started his higher academic journey at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Nigeria where he graduated with a First-class Bachelor’s Degreee in Civil Engineering.

He proceeded to the University of Alabama, United States for his Master’s Degree and graduated with a 100% record, attaining all the 4.00-grade points possible. He thereafter commenced his PhD program with specializations in Construction Engineering and Management.

Just like in his Master’s Degree program, Ifeanyi aced his Ph.D. grade scoring all the available 4.00 grade points to emerge the institution’s Outstanding Graduate Student award for the year 2022.

Celebrating himself on Twitter, Ifeanyi wrote:

I am glad to share that I graduated from The University of Alabama Graduate School with a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering; specializing in Construction Engineering and Management.

“I am grateful for receiving 10 academic honors and awards at UA – most recently at The @UofAlabama Premier Awards Ceremony as “Outstanding Graduate Student at The University of Alabama 2022”. For this, I thank the University President, Dr. Stuart Bell, @UAGradSchool , and @UAGSA.

Also, I received the 2022 Awards of Outstanding Graduate Student for Civil Engineering and the UA College of Engineering. For this recognition, I wish to appreciate my CCEE department, Capstone Engineering Society, and Engineering Council of Birmingham (ECOB).

For this recognition, I wish to appreciate my CCEE department, College of Engineering, Capstone Engineering Society and Engineering Council of Birmingham (ECOB).

I am grateful to all my Professors in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering, and for experiential tutelage and mentorship that laid the groundwork for a 4.0 Final coursework GPA, teaching and 13 co-authored peer-reviewed publications.

I am also grateful for the opportunities for community organizing and service during my Studentship. Forever cherished are memories with the people I worked with and the organizations that gave me a platform.

Lastly, I wish to thank all my family members, friends and colleagues for your support through the process. The last lap was very difficult but it has ended. Thank you for the opportunity for an elite education.
