A nursing student, Stella Joseph, was arrested by Niger State police after a Federal Polytechnic Bida lecturer, Otori Abdulfatai Aiyede, allegedly collapsed and died shortly after eating food she served him during a visit to her Minna residence, with investigations ongoing to determine the cause of death.


A nursing student, Stella Joseph, has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command in connection with the sudden death of Otori Abdulfatai Aiyede, a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State. The incident occurred on January 27, 2026, when the deceased lecturer visited Stella Joseph at her residence in Minna, reportedly to introduce himself.
During the visit, Stella allegedly served Abdulfatai Aiyede a plate of spaghetti and egg. Shortly after eating, he convulsed, collapsed, and was rushed to the General Hospital, Minna, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The police confirmed that Stella Joseph has been arrested and the corpse has been deposited for medical examination to ascertain the cause of death.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that the families have been contacted, and the case is under investigation. Further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses.
Initially, there was confusion about the institution where the deceased lectured, with some reports claiming he was a lecturer at Newgate University, Minna. However, the management of the institution debunked the claim, and it was later confirmed that he was a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State.
The arrest of Stella Joseph has raised concerns, and the police are urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the lecturer’s death.
