So Sad: Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Graduating Student Commits Suicide because of Poor Grades.

A graduating student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has reportedly commits suicide because of low grades in his result.

The sad event happened in the late hours of 20th April, 2019.

According to profjaysblog.com the deceased whose name is Kolapo Olowoporoku was a Computer Science student of OAU and should have graduated in the 2016/2017 academic session but he remained on campus due to some outstanding courses (CVE & CSC 517) he had to pass before graduating.

Kolapo with Facebook username “Olowoporoku kay-pee Kolapo” was the class rep of his class and ought to have undergone the compulsory NYSC service currently with his course mates who had their convocation last year.

The deceased took his outstanding courses in the last academic session (2017/2018) but it was gathered that he didn’t get up to the required pass mark to bid the said courses farewell.

It was also gathered that resorted to taking poison on Monday, but the poison didn’t kill him until 3 to 4 days after.

Record has it that there has been no semester since 2015 that OAU didn’t record at least one case of student either committing suicide or running mad because of academic pressure or bad grades

However, mourners have used the social media to express how they feel.

Academic pressure, bad grades etc are still not enuf reason for anyone to take his own life. People must understand that failure irrespective of how or where is just a temporal setback n sud not derail one from moving forward until the ultimate goal is achieved. RIP Kolapo

I believe Kolapo knew all these, but he still takes his own live anyways. I think there’s more to suicide than just knowing academic failure ain’t worth taking ones life for. There is something we don’t address in cases of suicide—veryone has there level of frustration absorber.

Don’t know the torments u guys are going tru now I know it can never be compared wt what we went tru. Oau as a citadel of learning is teaching how to survive in the real world especially in a country like Nigeria. Nothing, I mean nothing sud warrant a fellow to take his own life

Sir, if the OAU you went to was the one where you went on strike because of a #10 increase, where you had old buka, where employment was more/less guaranteed on graduation, where SUG had a voice to effect change against anti-student policies. Sir, we attend a different OAU..

Yaa…and it will probably go on for generations to come..but they had better hostels, people did their laundry, people were begging them to go to school and study ‘in the abroad’,they enjoyed a part of Nigeria & it’s educational system, we will never get back..
