A Nigerian woman has gone viral after recounting how repeated abuse, unsafe pregnancy termination, and ignored pleas for help during her time at a boarding school in Enugu State allegedly left her unable to conceive years later, prompting her to warn parents to listen to their children.

A Nigerian woman has stirred strong emotions online after sharing a traumatic account of her time in a boarding school, which she says permanently affected her ability to conceive.
The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that she attended a well-known boarding school in Enugu State. According to her, troubling events began shortly after her first year, prompting her to beg her parents to withdraw her from the school due to negative influences she had witnessed.
Although her father was reportedly open to the idea, her mother strongly opposed changing schools, leading to disagreements at home. Despite her repeated pleas, she was sent back to the boarding school.
Drawn Into a Harmful Circle
She explained that senior students later approached her, offering protection and friendship. Believing the group would help her feel safer, she joined them—only to later discover they were involved in dangerous and abusive activities.
The woman alleged that she was pressured into attending a night gathering, where she was given a drink and later lost consciousness. When she regained awareness, she experienced severe physical distress, which the other students dismissed as normal.
She said the abuse continued over time as she struggled to fit in and feared speaking out.
Health Crisis and Unsafe Medical Decisions
While still in school, she became pregnant and was persuaded to end the pregnancy through unsafe means rather than seeking medical care. This decision, she said, led to serious health complications, including persistent pain and infection.
Her condition worsened until school authorities contacted her mother, who took her to the hospital. Due to fear and shame, the young girl reportedly hid the true cause of her illness during treatment.
Although she recovered enough to return home, the damage had already been done.
Lifelong Impact
Years later, after getting married, she was diagnosed with a womb-related condition that left her unable to conceive. Now, more than a decade after the incident, she says she is still childless.
She shared her story to raise awareness and urged parents to listen closely to their children, stressing that early intervention could prevent irreversible harm.
“If I had been listened to, my life would have turned out differently. I just want parents to be vigilant and take their children seriously,” she said.
The story, originally shared via social media, has sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians calling for stronger child protection measures in boarding schools and better parental awareness.
