Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State awarded ₦2.5 million each to MAPOLY’s top graduates from 2016–2024 and launched a ₦2 billion campus development project, marking the institution’s first convocation since 2016.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has unveiled a comprehensive ₦2 billion intervention project aimed at upgrading infrastructure at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Ojere, in Abeokuta. The initiative includes the construction of a 5,000-seat lecture theatre, a modern library, departmental buildings, and campus roads.
Speaking at MAPOLY’s 15th combined convocation ceremony, the governor also rewarded the institution’s best graduating students from 2016 to 2024 with ₦2.5 million each. To further commemorate the occasion, the school received a brand-new bus.
“This total intervention amounts to about ₦2 billion,” Abiodun announced. “It covers facilities that will directly impact the learning environment, academic performance, and the overall student experience.”
Rector of MAPOLY, Dr. Babatunde Jolaoso, emphasized the importance of the convocation, noting that it was the school’s first since 2016—a reflection of years of academic and structural hurdles. He highlighted ongoing land disputes affecting the institution and appealed to the state government for support in resolving them.
The convocation lecture was delivered by Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM). She spotlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s new foreign policy framework dubbed the “4Ds”—Democracy, Development, Diaspora, and Demographics—as a significant shift from Nigeria’s traditional diplomatic focus.
According to her, the engagement of the Nigerian diaspora is essential in enhancing bilateral ties and fostering national growth.
