The Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight secondary school students from Ifo High School for alleged involvement in cult-related activities.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to newsmen in Ota on Saturday.
According to Odutola, on March 21, 2025, at about 12:05 p.m., the Vice Principal of Ifo High School, Mr. Alako Oluwole, alongside a teacher, Mr. Akinseku Oloruntoba Julius, reported that a group of students were engaging in cult-related activities, causing disturbances, and extorting valuables from their peers.
Following the report, the Ifo Divisional Police Officer, in collaboration with school authorities, apprehended eight students suspected to be involved in cultism. Preliminary investigations revealed that the students belonged to a group known as the “Future Guys” cult, allegedly initiated by two senior students.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the identities of the students have been withheld, and they will undergo thorough screening.
Odutola further stated that the police have launched an extensive investigation to assess the scale of cult-related activities within the school and to prevent further occurrences.
She added that upon the conclusion of preliminary inquiries, the students would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further interrogation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has directed that the students be presented before him on the next working day for further interviews. He also announced plans to provide counseling and mentorship programs as part of efforts to curb cultism among students.
Ogunlowo reiterated his commitment to maintaining law and order in Ogun State and urged parents, teachers, and community leaders to work together in eradicating cultism from schools.
