Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has awarded contracts for the construction of 55 new secondary schools in Plateau State as part of the World Bank-funded AGILE Project, aiming to enhance educational infrastructure and empower students, particularly adolescent girls, by ensuring high standards and rigorous oversight.

In a significant move to revamp the education sector in Plateau State, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has awarded contracts for the construction of 55 new secondary schools across the state, aiming to enhance the learning environment for students.
At the contract signing ceremony held at the Twin Theatre, New Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos, Governor Mutfwang highlighted that the signing marks a major step in his administration’s efforts to transform the state’s educational infrastructure.
The Governor stressed that the newly constructed schools must meet international standards and serve as models for future educational developments. The initiative falls under the Plateau State Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, funded by the World Bank, which is focused on improving the learning environment, particularly for the empowerment of the girl child.
During the event, Governor Mutfwang issued a clear directive to the contractors, emphasizing the need for high-quality work and adherence to the set standards and timelines, with rigorous supervision to ensure compliance. He warned, “We will ensure that these projects meet the highest standards. Our supervisory mechanisms will be top-notch because we want to set a precedent with this initiative. When the World Bank team comes for evaluation, we must not be found wanting.”
Governor Mutfwang also reminded the contractors that the funds for these projects are not free grants, and he stressed the importance of accountability and quality in their execution.
Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mohammed Nyalun, expressed appreciation to the World Bank, the Federal Government, and Governor Mutfwang for their contributions to making this project a reality, emphasizing that it is a crucial step towards providing every child in Plateau State with access to education in a conducive learning environment.
Project Coordinator for the AGILE Plateau State project, Shirinkpo Maina, provided an overview of the initiative, noting that the construction of 35 Junior Secondary Schools and 20 Senior Secondary Schools will lay the foundation for inclusive, quality education accessible to all children, regardless of their background.
This initiative, supported by the World Bank, represents a transformative investment in the state’s educational infrastructure and underscores the government’s commitment to uplifting education standards across Plateau State.
