Soldiers Allegedly Torture Polytechnic Student to Death Over Cultism Allegations

Terhile Timothy Achinya, a mechanical engineering student at Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic, Lafia, was allegedly tortured to death by military personnel after being accused of cultism, sparking outrage in the polytechnic community and prompting calls for justice from the Students Union and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Terhile Timothy Achinya, a mechanical engineering student at Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic, Lafia, was allegedly beaten to death by unidentified military personnel after being accused of cultism.

The incident has caused outrage within the polytechnic community, though Acting Rector Dr. Nurudeen Mu’azu Maifata has called for calm.

According to the Students Union Government (SUG) President, Comrade Jacob John Mutuwa, the situation escalated when a student, Samuel Ejembi, informed military personnel about alleged cultists at an entertainment center near the campus.

Both the informant and the accused students were taken into custody, where Achinya died during interrogations and torture by the soldiers. His body was later deposited at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital.

Mutuwa criticized the institution’s failure to provide student housing, which he believes could have prevented such incidents. He commended students for remaining calm and assured them that legal action had been taken against those responsible.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) also condemned the killing, calling for swift justice and urging military authorities to investigate and hold the responsible soldiers, allegedly from the 123 Special Force Battalion, accountable.
