Teenage Genius Who Left Secondary School at 12 Graduates From UI as Licensed Scientist

Mabel Aruwajoye overcame admission setbacks, health and financial challenges to graduate from University of Ibadan at age 21 as a licensed Medical Laboratory Scientist with distinctions in her professional exams.

A young Nigerian lady, Mabel Aruwajoye, has inspired many online after celebrating her graduation from University of Ibadan as a licensed Medical Laboratory Scientist.

Sharing her story on LinkedIn, Mabel revealed that she completed secondary school at just 12 years old and emerged as the best graduating student in her set. Despite passing the required cut-off mark, she initially struggled to gain admission into the university, while many of her mates moved ahead with their education.

Rather than remain at home, her parents encouraged her to continue learning through A-Level studies. She explained that her first experience at a Cambridge A-Level centre was challenging before a mentor, Mr. Peters Abiodun, helped redirect her to another school where she eventually excelled, graduating with impressive A-Level results in 2020.

In 2021, Mabel gained direct entry admission into the University of Ibadan to study Biomedical Laboratory Science at 200 level. According to her, the journey was far from easy as she battled academic pressure, health challenges, and financial difficulties throughout her stay in school.

She recalled losing confidence during her second semester in 200 level and facing intense pressure during her clinical year at the University College Hospital. Despite contracting malaria shortly before her first professional examination in 400 level, she still graduated with distinction in the exam.

Mabel also shared how her final-year toxicology research tested her endurance after manually running multiple laboratory parameters on 60 samples within two days.

Thankfully, she said her family remained supportive financially and emotionally throughout the process. At the end of her programme, she graduated with a Second Class Upper degree, earned distinctions in both professional examinations, and became a licensed Medical Laboratory Scientist at the age of 21.

Celebrating her achievement online, she expressed gratitude to God, her parents, siblings, supervisor, friends, roommates, and colleagues for standing by her during the journey.

Her inspiring story attracted massive reactions on social media, with many Nigerians congratulating her for her determination, resilience, and academic success despite the obstacles she encountered along the way.
