The Inspector-General of Police has ordered an investigation into the alleged killing of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a student at Kwara State Polytechnic, by three detained officers from the Kwara State Command.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the Homicide section of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged killing of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a student at Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Abdulyekeen was killed on September 4, 2024.

According to a statement released on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, the officers implicated in the incident have been identified as Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Emmanuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip. All three are attached to the Department of Operations, Kwara State Command, and have been detained pending the investigation.

ACP Adejobi noted that the Inspector-General of Police is “deeply saddened” by the tragic event that resulted in the loss of a young Nigerian life.

“The IGP expresses his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. He recognizes the profound grief and loss caused by this unfortunate act and assures the family and the public that justice will be served,” the statement read.

Abdulyekeen, a National Diploma 2 student of Electrical/Electronics Engineering, was allegedly killed by police officers under mysterious circumstances in the Fate Area of Ilorin, the state capital.
