UBA Essay Competition 2025: United Bank for Africa (UBA) Foundation is now accepting entries from Senior Secondary school students in Nigeria for its 2025 National Essay Competition. The closing date is on Friday, October 17th, 2025.


The National Essay Competition, targeted at senior secondary students in Nigeria, is organised annually, as part of UBA Foundation’s education initiative which aims to promote the reading culture and encourage healthy and intellectual competition amongst secondary school students in Nigeria and across Africa
Now in this year, the National Essay Competition provides a competitive platform to develop the intellectual and writing abilities of senior secondary school students in Nigeria. Winners get educational grants to study in any African University of their choice.
UBA Foundation National Essay Competition Topic: “Nigeria is characterised by diverse cultures, ethnicities, and religions. How can young Nigerians deploy diversity to build a united nation?”.

UBA Foundation National Essay Competition Eligibility
Candidates:
- Must be in senior secondary school
- Must submit a handwritten essay (750 words MAX)
- Must submit a passport photograph
- Must submit a copy of a birth certificate, National ID or Passport.
UBA Foundation National Essay Competition Prizes
The UBA Foundation Essay Competition offers a substantial financial reward for the top three winners:
* Winner: ₦10,000,000 educational grant + Award + Prizes
* First Runner-up: ₦7,500,000 educational grant
* Second Runner-up: ₦5,000,000 educational grant
Additional consolation prizes will also be awarded to other outstanding participants. These prizes are designed to support academic advancement and reward excellence in thought and expression.
UBA Foundation National Essay Competition Selection Procedure
- Entries received for the competition will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges made up of professors from reputable Nigerian Universities who will then shortlist 12 essays for further assessment.
- Following this, a second round of competition will involve the 12 finalists who will write a second superior essay from which three best essays will be selected as the overall winners from the 12 finalists.
How to Enter UBA Essay Competition
Interested students should submit their applications through the official competition website: ubagroup.com/uba-foundation/national-essay-competition/
- Applicant must submit their completed contact information (Name, Age, School, Address of school, Telephone Number, Residential Address and Email Address).
- Applicants must attach photocopies of their original birth certificates or international passport data page.
- Ensure that the essay is original, plagiarism-free, and properly referenced.
- Applicants must upload a handwritten essay on the portal.
Note: All incomplete and/or duplicate entries will be disqualified.
CLOSING DATE: 17th October 2025.
