A University of Lagos student told a Lagos court that a lecturer allegedly assaulted her in his office, prompting an investigation and ongoing trial.

A 20-year-old student of University of Lagos has told a Lagos State High Court how a lecturer, identified as Samuel Ojogbo, allegedly assaulted her in his office at the school’s Akoka campus.
While giving evidence before Justice Oyindamola Ogala in Ikeja, the student, appearing as the first prosecution witness, explained that the incident reportedly happened around noon on August 22, 2025. The case, brought by the Lagos State Government, involves two charges relating to alleged rape and sexual assault.
According to her testimony, she first met the lecturer a day earlier during an examination when he spoke with her and later asked her to visit his office. After initially failing to meet him twice, she said she encountered him the next day near her faculty, and they went to his office together.
She described the office as being located underground, without windows or a secretary. While inside, two female students briefly entered but were asked to leave. Shortly after, she said the incident occurred.
The student told the court that the lecturer allegedly forced himself on her after asking her to close the door. She added that afterward, he made promises about helping her academically, including supervising her final-year project, and collected her exam details and phone number.
She said she left the office in distress and immediately confided in a friend. The matter was first reported to a lecturer and later escalated to her uncle and the Head of Department, who reportedly questioned the lack of evidence and advised her to be cautious around lecturers.
Unsatisfied with that response, her uncle pushed for further action, leading to a report at the school’s Servicom office. She was later taken for medical examination and the case was referred to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, then to the police, and eventually to the Gender Unit for investigation.
The student also claimed that attempts were made by associates of the accused to settle the matter privately.
Following her testimony, the court adjourned the case until April 27, 2026, for cross-examination.
