University of Ibadan Declares Three-Week Break Amid Protests

The University of Ibadan has declared a three-week break following student protests over a tuition fee hike, disrupting academic and non-academic activities and delaying exams to September 23.

The management of the University of Ibadan (UI) has announced a three-week break following student protests over a recent increase in tuition fees.

This decision was communicated in a circular issued by the University’s management after a meeting with the Students’ Union leadership on Friday.

According to the management, the break aims to give students sufficient time to pay their fees and complete online registration.

The first semester examinations, which were originally set to start on September 2, have now been rescheduled to begin on September 23.

The circular also emphasized that the portal for fee payment and course registration will close permanently after September 20, 2024.

In related news, Lagos has ordered an investigation into the death of the A’Ibom CP at LASUTH.

Due to the protest, both academic and non-academic activities at the university have been disrupted.

The protest, sparked by the approval of the fee increase by the Governing Council, began early on Friday.

As a result, scheduled lectures on Friday were not held, with protesting students ensuring that no classes took place across the faculties.

Additionally, non-academic activities in the libraries and other facilities were halted due to the ongoing protests.

At the Kennedy Dike library, the main library on campus, students were barred from entry as part of the protest actions.
