A female university student’s N512,000 budget for her sign-out ceremony has ignited controversy on social media.
The budget list includes luxury items such as a new phone, human hair frontal, sneakers, makeup, and more. This extravagant spending has drawn criticism from netizens.
The viral image of the budget features items like “Baggy Jeans – N22,500, Sign Out New Phone – N300,000, Frontal (Human hair) – N15,500, Sneakers – N60,000, Sign Out Long Sleeve – N10,000, Wrist Watch – N20,000, Make Up – N50,000.”
Many people were quick to highlight the high costs, suggesting the money could be put to better use.
Commenters expressed disbelief and concern over the expenditures, calling them unnecessary and extravagant given the economic challenges faced by many in the country. One user commented,
“This one way no sabi spell long sleeve na she dey find 500k for sign out?” Another added, “U wan sign out and u don’t know the spelling of long sleeve, I think u need to sign in back oo.”
Many felt that the significant amount of money could have been better spent on starting a small business or investing in more meaningful ventures, especially in the current economic climate. The general sentiment is that the focus on material items for the sign-out ceremony is excessive and misplaced.
