A brilliant Nigerian lady named Emmanuel Omowunmi has earned a first-class marketing degree from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria, despite having no prior knowledge of the course from high school.
Omowunmi’s remarkable achievement earned her the title of best graduating student at Ladoke Akintola University. She originally aspired to be a nurse, but her academic path took an unexpected turn.
Initially, Omowunmi applied to study Nursing but was offered admission to study Marketing instead, despite lacking a background in accounting or commercial subjects. “It all started when I was offered admission to study Marketing when I applied for Nursing,” she explained.
“I passed above the JAMB cutoff mark for Nursing, and I did not have any commercial background in my secondary school and O’level results,” she added.
She accepted the admission, planning to switch to Nursing after her first year by maintaining high grades. However, despite meeting the grade requirements, she found that the Nursing department was not accepting transfers.
Undeterred, Omowunmi considered switching to Food Engineering due to her love for calculations. Unfortunately, the Marketing department, recognizing her as one of their top students, did not allow the transfer.
During this time, Omowunmi began to develop a genuine interest in Marketing. She realized that the course offered many opportunities for learning new skills, even though she came from a science background. Marketing, she discovered, involved critical thinking, data analysis, feasibility studies, and strategic planning, all of which appealed to her.
Despite maintaining a consistent second upper division, she aimed for a first-class grade, motivated by the fact that only one other student in her class had achieved it. Omowunmi dedicated herself to studying, spending at least 8 hours a day on her studies and even more during exam periods. Initially, she fell short of a first-class grade.
In the first semester of her final year, she almost gave up on achieving a first-class degree but was inspired to continue after scoring a perfect 5.0 grade point in the second semester. Her perseverance paid off, and she graduated with a First Class degree, becoming the top student in her department.
Despite the challenges, Omowunmi’s passion for Marketing grew, and she excelled in her studies without any prior background in the field.
Encouraging other scholars, Omowunmi urged them to remain resilient, focused, and passionate about their studies. She emphasized that this mindset can lead to success not only academically but also in other areas of life.
In addition to her academic achievements, Omowunmi has started her own beauty and cosmetics business, RIA POSTICHE N BEAUTY, demonstrating her versatility and entrepreneurial spirit.
