The West African Examination Council, Nigeria has revealed that about 1.8 million candidates from 22,2229 schools registered for the 2024 WASSCE for school students.

The West African Examinations Council, Nigeria, has announced that 1,814,344 candidates from 22,229 schools have enrolled for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for school candidates.
The Head of Nigeria office, Dr. Amos Dangut, disclosed at the WAEC Lagos Office that of this total, 902,328 were males and 912,016 were females.
Dangut noted that there is an increase in both male and female candidates compared to last year, with a total increase of 192,948 candidates.
The examination is scheduled to run from April 30, 2024, to June 24, 2024, spanning seven weeks and six days, across four WAEC member countries: Nigeria, Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.
Approximately 30,000 practicing senior secondary school teachers, nominated by various Ministries of Education, will supervise the examination, covering 76 subjects and 197 papers.
He stated, “A total of 1,814,344 candidates from 22,229 schools have registered for the examination. Out of this number, 902,328 are males, amounting to 49.73 per cent, while 912,016 are females, which is 50.27 per cent of the total candidature. The statistics show a further increase in the number of females and males respectively, compared to last year. However, on the whole, the candidature for this year increased by 192,948.”
“I am delighted to inform you that WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024 will take place between Tuesday, April 30, and Monday, June 24, 2024, in Nigeria, spanning seven weeks and six days.
“The examination will be conducted in four WAEC member countries, namely: Nigeria, Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.”
“We want to inform candidates of the council’s readiness to conduct WASSCE.” Dangut added.
