A 12-year-old student was abducted by masked gunmen in Ibadan, Oyo State, after being seized near her school, prompting the Oyo State Police Command to launch a full investigation and appeal for public assistance amid growing security concerns.

A 12-year-old student of Monarch Model College, Ibadan, was kidnapped by masked gunmen Thursday morning. The abductors, driving a car without number plates, trailed the girl’s mother, seized her at a junction near school, and fled via Challenge area.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen fired shots, punctured the mother’s Toyota RAV4 tyre (Lagos reg. KRD 350 GP), and dragged the resisting girl away. Police confirmed the incident, deploying detectives and questioning witnesses for leads.
Oyo Police Commissioner Femi Haruna ordered a comprehensive investigation, assuring safe rescue and justice. Parents are in close contact with police. “We urge calm and cooperation; info treated confidentially,” said PPRO Olayinka Ayanlade.
This isn’t Ibadan’s first kidnapping. APC chieftain Wale Oriade was abducted Dec 2025, freed after 39 days. Residents demand increased security.
The command appeals for public help, promising updates. “Any info aids rescue,” Ayanlade said. Concern grows over rising insecurity.
