Ohimai Amaize, a 40-year-old Nigerian journalist, has earned a master’s degree in Political Writing from Columbia University in the U.S.A. after receiving a full scholarship through the Columbia University Scholarship for Displaced Students.
Ohimai Amaize, a 40-year-old Nigerian journalist, has earned a master’s degree in Political Writing from Columbia University in the United States after securing a full scholarship through the Columbia University Scholarship for Displaced Students (CUSDS).
He shared the news on Twitter, saying, “Today I graduated from @columbiajourn with a Master’s Degree after receiving a full scholarship from @GlobalCenters in 2020.”
The CUSDS program is the first-ever university-wide scholarship at Columbia, designed to support displaced students. Ohimai was one of 18 students selected from over 1,200 applicants worldwide for the inaugural cohort.
Before this, Ohimai earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and French from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He fled to the U.S. and was granted asylum after facing threats of arrest for treason due to his journalistic work as a TV anchor.
