Kwara State University (KWASU) will award 71 First Class Degrees out of 6,891 graduates at its 12th convocation, while highlighting institutional growth, multi-campus expansion, and ongoing infrastructure challenges.
Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, will award First Class Degrees to 71 students from its 2023/2024 graduating class of 6,891 during its 12th convocation ceremony scheduled for December 14.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jimoh Shaykh-Luqman, made this announcement at a press conference held in Malete on Tuesday. He revealed that among the graduates, 6,374 will receive first degrees, while 517 will be awarded postgraduate degrees.
“Out of the graduating students, 71 will earn First Class Degrees, 1,828 will graduate with Second Class Upper Division, 3,501 will receive Second Class Lower Division, and 974 will earn Third Class. Additionally, 468 students will be awarded master’s degrees, while 49 will earn Ph.D. degrees,” he stated.
Prof. Shaykh-Luqman highlighted KWASU’s growth, noting the expansion from nine faculties to 11, with plans to increase undergraduate programs to 80. He also emphasized the institution’s transformation into a multi-campus university, with the Osi and Ilesha-Baruba campuses commencing operations in the 2024/2025 academic session.
“The university has completed a 104-bed hostel and is advancing the first phase of the Student Smart City hostel project to provide students with a holistic university experience,” he added.
However, the Vice-Chancellor noted challenges such as land encroachment and called for support from the Kwara Geographical Information Service to resolve the issue permanently. He also urged the state government to prioritize the reconstruction of the Shao-Malete road and extend the intra-campus road network.
