Cursory: The Mathematics Department Alumni at Lagos State University recently recognized five students for their exceptional academic achievements by awarding them a total of N300,000. These students attained the highest Grade Point Average during the 2022–2023 academic session in the department. The awardees where encouraged to view this recognition as motivation to continue striving for excellence.


The Mathematics Department Alumni at Lagos State University recently recognized five students for their exceptional academic achievements by awarding them a total of N300,000.
These students attained the highest Grade Point Average during the 2022–2023 academic session in the department. The cash prize was distributed among students from the first, second, and third years of the department.
The presentation ceremony took place during an orientation program for newly admitted students in the department at LASU’s Ojo campus. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, represented by Prof. Lawal Adigun, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, encouraged the awardees to view this recognition as motivation to continue striving for excellence.
She emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and adhering to academic regulations, urging students to familiarize themselves with the students’ handbook and abide by the department’s rules and regulations for a successful academic journey. Additionally, she advised students to avoid misconduct and remain dedicated to their academic pursuits.
She said, “The scholarship award will go a long way toward encouraging our brilliant students to continue to work hard and focus on their studies without distractions.
“I also commended the department for exposing its students to their rights and responsibilities.“It is in the interest of the students to familiarise themselves with the students’ handbook and strictly follow the rules and regulations of their department to have a hitch-free stay at the university.
“I urge you to shun all vices and be passionate about your academic pursuit.”
