Benue School Expels 11 Students Over Viral Assault Incident

Seat of Wisdom Secondary School in Benue State expelled 11 students for their involvement in a viral incident where a female student was assaulted and publicly humiliated, prompting intervention by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons.

Authorities at Seat of Wisdom Secondary School in Aliade, Benue State, have expelled 11 students following their involvement in a violent incident that was widely shared on social media.

The case gained public attention after a disturbing video showed a female student being attacked and stripped by fellow students, while others recorded and mocked her. The incident reportedly happened about a week earlier, not within the school premises but in a nearby bush where students had gathered during extension classes.

According to a source within the school, the altercation began as a disagreement between two female students who decided to settle their dispute privately. However, the situation quickly escalated when other students joined in, turning it into a chaotic group fight. During the clash, uniforms were torn, and the victim was left trying to cover herself as the incident unfolded.

Teachers were eventually alerted and intervened, bringing the situation under control before it worsened. In response, the school management immediately suspended the extension classes and began disciplinary measures.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) also stepped in, directing its state command to collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure appropriate action was taken.

Following an internal investigation by the school’s disciplinary committee, all 11 students found to be involved—comprising nine girls and two boys—were expelled. Their parents were notified of the decision.

Expulsion letters issued by the school cited participation in violent conduct and the sharing of the video online as serious violations of school rules, as well as actions that damaged the institution’s reputation. The expulsion took effect from March 23, 2026.
