Students Benefit from N10.4m Scholarship by OAU Alumni

Cursory: The Dallas branch of OAU Great Ife Alumni Association in the USA awarded N10.4 million scholarships to 52 OAU students. Recipients were chosen based on academic performance, financial need, and personal branding skills. The initiative seeks to assist students facing challenges and plans to continue awarding scholarships each academic session.

The Dallas branch of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Great Ife Alumni Association, located in the United States of America (USA), has granted scholarships totaling N10.4 million to 52 students of the institution for the 2023/2024 academic year.

The ceremony, held at the Oduduwa Hall of the university, was attended by prominent members of the university management, including Vice Chancellor Prof. Simeon Bamire.

Adeolu Esho, the president of the USA chapter of the association, emphasized that the Dallas project aims to give back and support their cherished alma mater by assisting financially disadvantaged students in pursuing their academic aspirations.

Providing insights on the criteria for the selection process, Esho said, “We commenced the process in August 2023 and the beneficiaries were selected based on set criteria ranging from their outstanding academic performance, fascinating application and strict adherence to the laid down instructions, justification of financial needs, personal branding ability and the quality of their written essay.”

Dr. Tunde Adeyemo, the president of the Great Ife Alumni Association’s awarding branch in Dallas, elucidated that numerous members of their Dallas branch empathized with the challenges faced by younger students pursuing their education at OAU, particularly during such a critical period.

“We understand that there are many students who, though exceptionally brilliant, may need some help financially to make it through their degree programmes. We were here and still understand the peculiar challenges,” he said.

Adeyemo explained that the beneficiaries of the scholarship award are to be tagged “Dallas Scholars” and are expected to be good ambassadors of the Dallas OAU Alumni branch. “We will give out scholarships every academic session to indigent students who are diligent and who excel academically,” the president added.
