Lukman Audu, a Nigerian lawyer, has won the prestigious Chevening Scholarship from over 11,000 applicants, enabling him to pursue a Master’s degree in International Human Rights Law at the University of Essex in England.

A talented Nigerian lawyer, Lukman Audu, has emerged as one of 32 scholars selected from over 11,000 applicants in Nigeria to receive the prestigious Chevening Scholarship, allowing him to pursue a Master’s degree at the University of Essex in England.
Lukman, who holds a Bachelor of Law degree in International Law and Legal Studies from the University of Maiduguri and is a qualified barrister and solicitor from the Nigerian Law School, shared his achievement on LinkedIn, expressing pride in being selected for the 2024-2025 Chevening Awards.
The Chevening Scholarship is a global scholarship program funded by the UK government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organizations, covering the full cost of studying for a master’s degree in the UK, including accommodation, visa, and travel expenses.
Lukman will pursue an LL.M. in International Human Rights Law at the University of Essex, a journey he describes as challenging due to the rigorous selection process, which required dedication, resilience, and self-belief as he competed against over 70,000 highly qualified candidates from around the world in a program with less than a 2% acceptance rate.
With seven years of experience working with national and international organizations on the rights of Internally Displaced Persons, Refugees, Illegally Detained People, Prisoners, Women, and Children, Lukman is motivated to further his studies in Human Rights Law at a globally renowned university known for its excellence in the field.
He expressed gratitude to the Chevening Awards, the University of Essex, the UK in Nigeria Embassy, his mentors, friends, and family for supporting him in achieving his dream, and he looks forward to connecting with experts in the field, enhancing his skills, and tackling human rights violations in Nigeria and globally.
His celebratory post partly reads:
How could I keep calm when I have been #chosenforchevening?😂😅
