A High Court in Ogun State dismissed the rape case against Dr. Stephen Ukenna, a former Covenant University lecturer, after the prosecution failed to present witnesses for over three years.

On June 5, 2024, a High Court in Ogun State, sitting in Ilaro, dismissed a three-count charge of sexual intercourse, sexual exploitation, and rape against Dr. Stephen Ukenna, a former lecturer in the Department of Business Administration at Covenant University.
Ukenna was accused of committing the offenses against a 17-year-old female student from the Department of Human Resources in March 2021. However, after more than three years without the prosecution presenting witnesses, the State Counsel, O. A. Osunsami, informed the court that the Director of Public Prosecution had directed the withdrawal of charges due to failed attempts to secure witness testimony.
As a result, presiding Judge A. A. Shobayo struck out the case, and Ukenna was discharged.
