University Lecturer Speaks About Measley Salary Amid Protest Against Tinubu

Cursory: University lecturer Mazi Eze shared his reasons for staying in academia despite low pay, amid concerns about the rising cost of living. He emphasized the importance of imparting knowledge and nurturing intellectual growth.

Mazi Eze, a university lecturer, recently shared his reasons for continuing in academia despite the low pay in a Facebook story. He explained that he felt compelled to address a question posed by one of his students online.

His revelation coincides with ongoing concerns about the rising cost of living in the country. In his Facebook story, Eze metaphorically likened his role to that of a burning candle, emphasizing that intellectual and academic pursuits bring him great satisfaction.

He stressed the importance of imparting knowledge and nurturing the intellectual growth of others. Despite the modest salary, he finds fulfillment in his role as an educator, aiming to inspire and empower future generations.

He said :

“In this profession, is that a burning candle does not lose anything by burning other candles. I am burning intellectually. I am burning academically. Therefore, it gives me great joy to light so many other candles.

“One day, I will not be here, just like everybody will not last forever. So, when I am not here, there should be many, so many other candles burning here and there. So, that is the reason I am back to my miserable N191k salary as a lecturer.”
