Court Sentences Man to Six Months for Impersonating His Daughter in UTME Exam

Jide Josiah Jisos was sentenced to six months in prison or a ₦100,000 fine by an Abuja court for impersonating an NGO observer to assist his daughter during the 2019 UTME exam.

An Abuja Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2 has sentenced Jide Josiah Jisos, who claimed to be a “professor,” to six months in prison for impersonation during the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Jisos was caught by officials from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) at Brix Academy in Abuja, where he posed as an observer for a non-governmental organization (NGO) while monitoring exams.

According to JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, Jisos initially identified himself as an NGO representative to UTME officials. However, his deception was uncovered when a monitoring team leader questioned his purpose in the exam hall, leading to his arrest and confession that he was there to assist his daughter in the test.

The court, led by Chief Magistrate Justice Folashade Oyekan, found him guilty of impersonation, sentencing him to six months’ imprisonment with the option of a ₦100,000 fine.

The date of the court’s ruling was not specified in the statement.
