Reps Urge Universities to Prevent Unnecessary Delays and Frustrations in Students’ Research.

The House of Representatives Committee on University Education has advised Nigerian universities to avoid causing unnecessary delays and frustration for students in completing their research projects, theses, and dissertations. This directive follows concerns about a lecturer from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, who reportedly passed away after a prolonged and uncompleted 13-year PhD program, allegedly due to depression stemming from his supervisor’s treatment.

Committee Chairman, Abubakar Hassan Fulata, urged Ahmadu Bello University and other universities to ensure supervisors treat students fairly and support them to complete their studies on time. He also noted that several federal universities do not adhere to federal character principles in hiring practices, advising newer institutions like the Federal University of Health Sciences Azare and Federal University Dutsin-Ma to prioritize compliance with these guidelines.
