16-Year-Old Tehilah Isimah Wins UBA Foundation National Essay Competition

Sixteen-year-old Tehilah Oluchukwu Isimah won the 14th UBA Foundation National Essay Competition, receiving a N7.5 million educational grant to support her university education, alongside other prizes.

The UBA Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group, has announced the winners of the 14th edition of its annual National Essay Competition (NEC), which celebrates outstanding senior secondary school students across Nigeria.

At the grand finale held yesterday at UBA House, Tehilah Oluchukwu Isimah from Everest Heights International Academy, Gwagwalada-Abuja, emerged as the overall winner, earning a prestigious N7.5 million educational grant. This grant will fully fund her university education at any African institution of her choice.

Overwhelmed with excitement as she received her award, which included a trophy, certificate, plaque, and other prizes, Isimah said:
“I am so happy. I prayed and worked so hard for this. Even though I am a science student, I have always loved writing. I am very glad this dream of mine came true. UBA Foundation, this is an answered prayer for me, and I will forever be grateful.”

Her mother, also present at the event, expressed her gratitude:
“This feels like a dream come true for us. Thank you, UBA Foundation, for making this possible. I am so happy.”

The second prize, a N5 million educational grant, was awarded to Obinna-Chukwu Chikamara Christabel of Regina Pacis College, Abuja, while the third prize of N3.5 million went to Essien Greatness Emediong from the Nigerian Christian Institute, Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

For the second consecutive year, female students dominated the top spots, with Tehilah and Chikamara leading the pack.
