Nigerian lawyer Eze Gabriel Chikwado secured a full scholarship for an LLM at Newcastle University and a prestigious WTO internship, gaining global exposure in international trade law.


A talented Nigerian lawyer, Eze Gabriel Chikwado, has been awarded a full scholarship to pursue a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law and Global Challenges at Newcastle University, United Kingdom. Alongside this remarkable feat, he also secured a prestigious internship at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland.
Eze’s academic journey began in 2011 at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), where he earned his Bachelor of Laws (LLB). After completing his studies, he proceeded to the Nigerian Law School and was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2017.
Determined to advance his legal career, Eze applied for graduate studies abroad, successfully securing an offer seven years after completing his undergraduate degree.
During his time at Newcastle University, Eze received an additional scholarship through the university’s Global Opportunities program. This funding allowed him to participate in the Joint University Study Tour (JUST) and gain hands-on experience in international trade through an internship in Geneva.
As part of his global academic pursuits, he landed an internship with both the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Kingdom Mission in Geneva. The WTO Internship Programme offers participants extensive training, mentorship, and exposure to international trade policies, along with a monthly stipend.
Through this experience, Eze engaged directly with high-profile figures in global organizations, including the United Nations, WTO, and the International Trade Centre (ITC). Reflecting on his achievements, he described his time in Geneva as transformative, granting him the opportunity to work closely with global trade leaders, including WTO Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Deputy Director-General Johanna Hill.
Expressing his gratitude, Eze acknowledged the unwavering support of his lecturers and mentors at Newcastle University, crediting them for their guidance throughout his academic journey.
His story serves as an inspiration to aspiring Nigerian legal professionals, proving that perseverance, dedication, and global ambition can unlock incredible opportunities on the world stage.
