The Federal College of Education, Zaria (now Federal University of Education, Zaria) has once again emerged winner of the 5th Edition of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) National Tertiary Admissions’ Performance Merit Award (NATAP-M Awards).

The institution, recently upgraded to a University of Education, emerged as “the Best College of Education in the Mega Award (incorporating all five segments) at the fifth edition (2023 and 2024)”, which included: Most Subscribed Institution by Candidates, Most National in Admission of Candidates, Improved Gender Intake, Highest Number of Admitted International Students, and Best Compliance with JAMB Policy Guidelines.
Earning a total of 18 points in the Colleges of Education category — the highest score across all categories, including Universities, Polytechnics, and Innovation Enterprise Institutions — the Federal College of Education, Zaria received a Certificate of Award and a monetary award of ₦50 million.
This marks the third consecutive JAMB award for the institution under the leadership of Dr. Suleiman Balarabe, formerly Provost and now the Acting Vice Chancellor.
In 2023, the College received the JAMB Silver Award for being the Second Best Nigerian College of Education in Providing Access to Higher Education for Persons with Special Needs, and also won the Best College of Education Award with a sum of ₦50 million in the 4th Edition of the JAMB Mega Awards.
The 2025 awards were presented by the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmed, alongside the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, and other top officials, during the JAMB Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions, held on Tuesday, 8th July 2025, at the African Hall, Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The award was received on behalf of the University by the Acting Registrar, Mal. Shehu Iya Sa’idu, accompanied by the Acting Bursar, Mal. Muhammad Kabiru Aliyu, and the Academy Secretary, Mal. Auwal Ibrahim.
The event was attended by Vice Chancellors, Rectors, Provosts, Registrars, and Admissions Officers from various Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, and Monotechnics across the country.
This eviable record not only cements the institution’s place as pacesetter in teacher education, but also signals its readiness to thrive in its new status as a Federal University of Education.
