The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, will graduate 9,821 students—including 167 with First Class honours—at its 54th convocation, alongside 1,892 postgraduate awardees, a convocation lecture by FCMB Chairman, and the launch of a new grants and scholarships directorate aimed at boosting research and academic excellence.
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) will confer First Class Honours on 167 graduates during its 54th convocation ceremony. The event, which commenced with a press briefing at the Enugu campus on July 22, 2025, marks the graduation of a total of 9,821 students receiving first degrees and diplomas.
Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oguejiofor Ujam, highlighted the achievements as a reflection of both student dedication and faculty commitment. The full breakdown of the results includes 3,485 students graduating with Second Class Upper, 5,217 with Second Class Lower, 739 with Third Class, 33 with a Pass, and 180 with unclassified degrees.
Beyond undergraduate degrees, the university will also award 1,892 postgraduate qualifications. These include 616 PhDs, 1,101 MSc degrees, and 133 MBAs.
Professor Ujam, whose tenure concludes next month, announced that the convocation lecture—scheduled for July 24—will be delivered by Mr. Ukandu Eme Ukandu, MD/CEO of Firstcap Limited and Chairman of FCMB. The topic of the lecture is “Educated to Rise: From Struggle to Global Strength.”
He also unveiled the newly established Directorate of Grants and Scholarships, created to strengthen the university’s ability to attract external research funding and support student scholarships. According to him, this reflects UNN’s continued focus on academic excellence and innovation.
